Transformed
We thought some of the transformations from the common to the beautiful that we have accomplished would be an interesting photo essay.

The Cold Spray Metal that Atlas Signs & Plaques uses is manufactured by LuminOre®. Using this fantastic process allows us to apply real metal to almost any substrate imaginable.

Here are a few of the more unusual and interesting projects that we have done in our past.

Driftwood Sculpture – From Wood to “Are Those Solid Cast”?

Driftwood Metal Coated

Driftwood Metal Coated

After receiving 8 real Florida driftwood sculptures from artist, Carol Woodland at  All Driftwood Furniture, they were unpacked, primed, and coated with real bronze. The patinator (Janey) then did their magic, adding a measure of depth, highlights, and interest to these, most unusual art pieces.

The art now resides in the Westye Group’s Manhattan Showroom featuring Sub-Zero and Wolf quality appliances.

Elevator Doors – From Blah to Wowza!

Elevator Doors Metal Coated – with Art Deco Style

Elevator doors for the renovation of the Creamery Building, a five-floor deserted structure in beautiful downtown Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin began their transformation as flat primed doors. The building had a number of art-deco elements which the owners wished to expand to the interior. The design for the doors was inspired by a piece of period jewelry.

The building now hosts the world headquarters of the VyMaC Corporation and a Verlo Mattress Store. The extensive renovation, spearheaded by Company President, Dave Young Jr. was selected to receive the 2007 Historic Restoration Award by the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Copper Fireplace – From Fiberboard, To Fiberglass, To Fabulous.

Sheet Copper with a Verdigris Patina, but without the expense was desired by the architects at Iconica, for a new Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Middleton, Wisconsin. The fireplace surround was constructed by the job carpenters in three pieces with cement board on the bottom and construction grade pine boards for the top two sections.

Our craft-persons fiber-glassed all three sections to add rigidity to the structure, cover screw and bracket holes, and to provide a uniform substrate for the LuminOre® process.

After coating and polishing, patina chemicals were selectively spray applied giving a distinctive look of age to the project. Clear coat finishing and packing completed our part of this working fireplace. The heat of the gas fireplace is not an issue because LuminOre® has been tested to Class B fire ratings.

These are but a few examples of our work. If you would like to see the process on most any of the projects here send us a message. We plan on posting additional “before and after” photos in the future.
