Neighborhoods, cities and designated historical areas can have each individual plaque customized with a unique message. Our historic plaque comes in four different sizes and we can add custom wording, graphics and shapes to commemorate your special building or location. We can help you to design the perfect, custom historic plaque!
The National Historic Preservation Program is a partnership between the National Park Service and State, Tribal, and local governments. Any building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places may place a historic plaque or sign on the structure. There are more than 90,000 properties currently listed in the National Register. These include historic districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects. They are properties associated with events, activities, or developments that were important in the past such as architectural history, landscape history, engineering achievements or archeological significance.
Your property doesn’t have to be listed in the national register to use this sign. These plaques can be used to commemorate your special home, school, building or other structure. You can proudly represent anything of significance with your custom message.

Almost Square Historic Plaque Sign Content Suggestions
The National Park Service does not have any formal requirements for sign content. It is popular to use the working “National Register of Historic Places” on plaques. Here are some other suggestions provided by the National Register:
- This property has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior
- (Historic name of your house) has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places
Your custom historic sign will have a base of modern 30 pound High Density Urethane (HDU) sign board (a type of plastic). HDU has been in use for over 50 years. It lasts up to 10 times longer than wood and will not crack, rot or peel. HUD was originally designed for use as insulation in the aircraft industry and is currently used for insulation of homes, model making, boat building and more specifically in the sign making industry. The metal coating on our custom plaques is NOT paint, it is REAL metal sprayed on to the HDU surface and is comprised of up to 75% real metal. Sprayed metal has been proven for over 30 years. It looks, feels, and acts just like hot foundry cast metal but without the weight and expense.
